Unit & Float Construction
The Large Aerating Fountains, as with all Otterbine products has been designed and engineered for high quality and ease of use.
- Corrosion Resistant Materials:
All components are manufactured of stainless steel and brass with minimal plastic components for use in brackish water environments. - Easy Handling:
Float ring enhances structural integrity of the float and improves maneuverability of the unit. - Adjustable Float:
Air-filled wing floats allow for water intake to adjust float buoyancy and visibility in the water.
For more information on this product’s features, please see the illustration.
PRODUCT ILLUSTRATION
- Float uses 'wing floats' that allow for adjustments to float visibility.
- Stainless steel float ring for easy handling and maneuverability.
- Mixed flow pumping chamber achieves maximum pumping capacities.
- Corrosion resistant, durable 16 gauge/316 grade stainless steel motor housing with oil plug located on bottom for ease of maintenance.
- Electrical quick disconnect is integrated into motor housing with extension cable for simplified maintenance.
- Oil cooled, efficient 3450/2875 RPM custom motor is sealed to ensure dependability and long life.
- Industrial strength, corrosion resistant stainless steel screen protects pump and motor from debris.
- Recessed pockets protect light fixtures when applicable.
Complete package is safety tested, approved and listed with ETL and ETL-C. Products for the European Union are also safety tested, approved and carry a 3rd party, independent CE mark. Minimum operating depth is 40in or 1m with and without lights.
Basic Installation Guidelines:
- Unit Assembly: Unit arrives partially assembled on a skid and requires some pre-assembly prior to placing into water. The unit will be received with the main float and the pump chamber mounted to it, remaining assembly includes wing floats and float ring, plus screen and lights when applicable. Estimated time to assemble is 30 minutes to one hour. Minimal assembly is required and all hardware is provided, two 1/2in or 13mm sockets or wrenches, two 9/16 or 14mm sockets or wrenches and a screwdriver will be needed.
- PCC Installation: Qualified electrician will need to be on-site to install power control center (PCC is standard for all domestic/60Hz applications.)
- Power Cable: Power cable should be buried or trenched in conduit per local codes, and run at least 3ft or 1m out into the pond/basin.
- Anchor/Mooring Unit in Water: Float unit into the water and either anchor or moor it in to place with stainless steel cables or polypropylene rope. For ponds that experience fluctuating water levels we recommend that you moor the unit into its location. Mooring the unit can often be done from the shoreline, while a boat is typically required when anchoring.

Installation is fairly simple, but will require the services of a certified electrician. Tools and materials required can include: a shovel (to bury/trench cable,) conduit, nylon rope, cinder blocks (when anchoring), boat (when anchoring,) rebar or duckbill anchors (when mooring), and two 1/2in or 13mm sockets or wrenches, two 9/16in or 14mm sockets or wrenches and a screwdriver. Complete installation instructions will be found within the Large Aerating Fountain owner’s manual which will be provided with the delivery of the product.
To receive a Large Aerating Fountain from Otterbine the facility should be equipped with a forklift or pallet jack as the unit is shipped on a skid. Otherwise package can be dismantled by 2-3 people. Average weight of shipment will range between 280-330lbs or 127-138kg.
Warranty
Each of the patterns under the 7.5HP & 10HP Large Aerating Fountain line carry an all inclusive 2 year warranty. This warranty extends to the complete package including the unit, cable and power control center.
Warranty and service can be performed by more than 100 factory trained and certified Otterbine Service Centers found worldwide, or by Otterbine directly. A copy of the warranty statement for this product can be found within the owner’s manual.
Maintenance
Large Aerating Fountains require periodic preventative maintenance.
Once a year: Disconnect the unit from the power source and physically inspect the aerator and underwater cable for any cuts, cracks or breaks as these may cause oil leaks or electrical shorts. Inspect and clean the pumping chamber components and screen. Debris may need to be cleaned out more often depending on your particular site.
After Every 3 Running Seasons: Perform a simple oil change. Otterbine oil must be used for this oil change for environmental and heat dissipation purposes. Otterbine oil can be purchased through Otterbine distribution with part number: 12-0115.
At Second Oil Change (ie year six): It is recommended to replace the rotary seal and o-rings of the power unit. This maintenance should be performed by an Authorized Otterbine Service Center.
Winterization
The Starburst and Neptune patterns pump higher volumes of water and can remain in the water during the winter in freezing climates but need to run a minimum of 12 hours per day, and should run 24 hours per day when temperatures drop below 20° Fahrenheit or -7° Celcius.
The Orion, Apollo, Venus and Equinox patterns must be removed in climates that experience cold winters and frozen waters before lakes freeze over in order to avoid the unit from freezing in and causing damage to the motor.
